Clinical Observation on Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract
|
|
|
A clinical observation was made on 348 cases of diabetes mellitus seen at Kyungpook University Hospital, Taegu, Korea, during th.e preiod from January, 1968 to August, 1972 and the following results were obtained.
1. During the same period, a total number of in-patients was 22, 533 with. the over-all incidence of diabetes mellitus being 1.02%.
2. The order of frequency in onset of the dis-ease were as as follow: 5th, 6th, 4th, 7th, 3rd, and the 8th, in decade of age. Male to female ratio of the patients was 1.85:1.
3. Obesity, high caloric intake, heredity, inf-ection and previous administration of stero-id were regarded as possible predisposing factors, and each constituted 31.0 0, 30.7´ %. 16.1%, 10.3 0, and 9.8 0.
4. Fatigability vas complained in 43.7 0 of~ total patient being the most frequent symptom. Other frequent symptoms tivere polyuria, weakness, thirst and weight loss.
5. Common complication of the disease were neuropathy, hypertension and infection (especially tuberculosis). Diabetic coma was observed only in two cases.
6. On establishing the diagnosis, 48.2io and 8.6 0 of them admitted immediately and within 3 monthes, respectively. and 4.5 a of them admitted after 10 years of diagnosis.
